Samoens is locates in a glacial valley where the river Giffre runs through, although the village is only 720 m above sea level due to its geographical location close to Mont Blonc.
Samoens is surrounded by 7 peaks reaching over 3200 m and is located towards the end of a dead end valley, winter temperatures do stay very low. While the town is well known for its stone masonry it is also a notional monument and full of history. From December to Mid April it transforms in to a winter play ground, people have been skiing hear for over 100 years and it centenary was celebrated in 2012.
From Samoens you can catch the Gondola Grand Massif Express which takes you up to Samoens 1600 mid station in 8 minutes, this year 2017/18 Club Med are opening their all inclusive hotel. At the mid station you have the nursery slopes which is the largest beginners area in Haute Savoie all piests are facing north which guarantees snow throughout the ski season. This is where all the ski schools meet. From this area you can ski down to Vecland located at 1100m or catch a chair lift to the top of Samoens and directly link with Les Carros, Morillon or the sector of Flaine. The lower resorts of Samoens, Les carroz all offer tree line skiing for those snowy winter days on the slopes where Flaine has the open bowl for those lovely sunny winter days. Samoens forms part of the Grand Massif which was the 4th largest ski area in France one of the closes resorts to Geneva Airport with private transfers conecting the airport with Samoens.
